TL;DR
We collect nothing. Your answers live only in your browser and vanish when you close the tab. No cookies. No accounts. No analytics that track you personally.
What data we collect
None. howrare.me does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Every calculation you perform — your height, age, income, or any other input — runs entirely inside your own browser using JavaScript.
Where your answers are stored
Your module results are saved to sessionStorage in your browser — a temporary area that exists only for the duration of your browser session. This allows the site to build your Curiosity Card and Versus comparisons across multiple modules without needing an account. When you close the tab or browser, this data is permanently deleted. It never leaves your device.
Cookies
We do not use cookies of any kind — not for analytics, not for advertising, not for session management.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first tool that does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your browser, and does not track you across websites. It collects only aggregate data (page views, referrers, countries) and shares none of it with third parties. You can review Plausible's data policy at plausible.io/data-policy.
Sharing features
When you use the Curiosity Card or Versus Mode, your module results are encoded directly into the share URL as a compact string. This encoding happens in your browser. No data is sent to our servers to generate the URL. Anyone you share the link with can decode the embedded percentile data, so only share links you are comfortable sharing.
Third-party data
All statistical reference data (height distributions, income percentiles, etc.) is sourced from publicly available academic studies and international datasets, listed per module. We do not use third-party APIs that receive your personal inputs.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete. If you have concerns, you can clear your browser's sessionStorage at any time through your browser settings, which removes all locally stored module results immediately.
