How fast are forests disappearing?

The world loses approximately 10 million hectares of forest per year — equivalent to 27 football fields every minute. Brazil, the DRC, and Indonesia account for the majority of tropical deforestation. Total forest cover has declined by about 3% since 1990, though the rate has slowed in some regions.
